Where to start
Walk the site with the people who will operate it. List each camera, the event it supports and any area it should exclude. Place notices where people can read them before entering.
Put it into practice
Assign access by role, set a deletion schedule and test the steps for reviewing a false alert. Record who can approve exceptions and how they will be logged. Test deletion as an operational task rather than relying on a policy document alone. Confirm that exported clips, support copies and backups follow the agreed handling rules. Give operators a short escalation path for unexpected recording, access requests or incorrect alerts. A deployment review should include the people who watch the footage as well as those who install the cameras. Revisit coverage when rooms, entrances or working practices change.
